The City of Raleigh has recently adopted a “living wage” policy by unanimous vote of the city council on January 20th, 2017. This raises the minimum wage for municipal workers within the city of Raleigh to $13.76 from $12.00 an hour. The raise however, does not apply to first responders, firefighters or police officers as of yet. The city council is currently debating a raise for their pay to come out of budget negotiations in the spring. Nonetheless, this is a win for labor and will surely put money back into the recovering economy, as well as boosting the pay of 143 city workers.
