Mr. Tony Swift is a North Carolina native, born and reared in the Elkin, NC area. At the age of eleven, he received a phone call from his cousin, who asked him if he would like to help wire a house. By the time he graduated from high school, he realized that the part-time electrical work he had been doing with his cousin inspired him to pursue an electrical career.
He began his electrical union career in 1985 with the International Brotherhood of Electrical Workers, joining IBEW Local Union 553 in Raleigh/Durham, NC. For over twenty years, he traveled all over the country working in the electrical industry as a Journeyman Inside Wireman of the IBEW.
In 2007, the IBEW formed a new initiative for the Carolinas. Tony was hired as one of a team of International Representatives whose mandate was to assist and advise local unions to impact and grow the presence of the IBEW in their areas.
In late 2010, he was hired by IBEW Local Union 553 with a dual role of Assistant Business Manager and Membership Development Coordinator, working under the leadership of the then Business Manager, Mr. Ronald Cockman.
In 2013, Tony was elected to the office of Business Manager / Financial Secretary of IBEW Local 553. He has served in this capacity to the present day.
Tony is an avid hunter. His hobby is turkey hunting. Each day he reads and learns more about wild turkey hunting and prepares for the annual hunting season in North Carolina.
